Brussels bombing attacks: Salford fly flag at half mast as nation mourns

Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Fire are flying their flags at half mast today in memory of the victims of the Brussels terror attack.

At least 34 people are dead and 260 were injured in Tuesday’s suicide bombings in the Belgian capital.

Daesh, also known as ISIS or Islamic State, claimed responsibility for the murderous attacks at Zaventem airport and Maelbeek metro station.

Belgium’s federal prosecutor Fredere Van Leeuw today named two of the suicide bombers as brothers Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui.

Police are still hunting a third man caught on airport CCTV just before the blasts rocked the capital.

Belgium is now to observe three days of national mourning.

Manchester City Council said it would follow in the footsteps of Paris authorities and light up Manchester Town Hall in red, yellow and black, the colours of the Belgian flag.

Salford City Council’s flag in Swinton will fly at half mast today, the council confirmed.

And Greater Manchester Fire have done the same, holding a minute’s silence alongside police colleagues in memory of those killed in the atrocity.

Greater Manchester Police said extra security and more patrols had been added at transport hubs across the region, including Manchester Airport.
