The ongoing transformation of Manchester’s transport network will see improvements made to the Portland Street area of the city next week.
From Tuesday 29 to Thursday 31 March, Portland Street will be resurfaced between Oxford Street and Princess Street.
The works have been planned to be completed before the upcoming temporary closure of Princess Street between Clarence Street and Cooper Street, which will see tracks being laid for the transformational Metrolink Second City Crossing.
Diversions will be in place and signposted while the resurfacing works are being carried out and some buses will take different routes as a result:
• 18, 33, 38, 42, 43, 44, 63, 84, 85, 86, 99, 101, 104, 105, 108, 109, 112, 130, 142, 143, 250, 255, 256, 263, 291, Metroshuttle 1 (orange), X41, X43, X50, X57, X58 and night services: 42, 43, 142, 143 and 256.
Access for businesses in the area will be maintained.
This work will mark the completion of the bus priority measures along Portland Street, which prioritises buses, cycles and hackney carriages and prohibits general traffic from using some sections.
The works form part of the wider, transformational “Grow” project, which will see more than £1 billion invested in city centre infrastructure improvements by 2017, including the Metrolink Second City Crossing, bus priority measures, six new and better cycling routes into the city centre and major rail improvements.
