Beechfield United completed their 2015/2016 season in the Manchester Football League with another win but they won’t know their final postition in the Division 1 table until all leftover fixtures have been played.
Visiting Oldham, Beechy dominated Chadderton Reserves with a brilliant all-round display and fully deserved their 2-0 victory.
Despite creating numerous goal scoring chances in the first half the away side failed to find a way through the Chadderton keeper and the hosts had limited opportunities so it stayed 0-0 at half time.
United’s first goal arrived on 55 minutes following a foul on Jamie Sinnott – who took the free kick himself and produced a stunning finish when he curled the ball into the net from 25 yards.
Chadderton Reserves rarely threatened to breakdown United’s well organised back four that included Patrick Beckett who’s outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
The goal that put Beechy 2-0 up had an element of luck attached to it when Steve Erskine’s looping cross into the area was misjudged by the Chadderton keeper who fumbled the ball into the net.
Overall it has been a classy season for United who have put in some incredible performances throughout the year.
United’s Saturday Morning Senior Team were involved in a physical encounter with Brushes Rangers Spartak and after twice coming back from a goal down Beechy were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw.
United faced some intense pressure from Brushes who quickly adopted the long ball tactic and both Dave Harrison and Daniel Eckersley produced some quality defending as the visitors enjoyed more of the ball in the opening 15 minutes.
A superb move between Wes Pierce, Mohsin Miah and Tim McQueeney almost gave Beechy the lead but the latter fired the ball into the keeper’s hands.
Twice in quick succession the Brushes number 10 broke the offside trap but wasted two reasonably easy chances with only United keeper Declan Oliver to beat.
Right back and Man of the Match Mark Carney made several powerful runs into the Brushes half and two great crosses set-up chances for Scott Foulds and Roy Owen who couldn’t supply the required finish.
Brushes went 1-0 up on thirty two minutes after a swift counter-attack developed and the visitors number 8 with enough time and space fired the ball low into the corner of the net. Minutes later Scott Foulds executed a superb goal line clearance following a corner and Beechy were slightly relieved to hear the whistle for half time.
With a stiff breeze behind them United played with more confidence in the second half and an equalising goal always seemed likely and minutes after Declan Oliver made a terrific save to deny Brushes number 11 a goal Beechy drew level.
On 56 minutes Scott Foulds, Tim McQueeney and Mohsin Miah combined in a slick passing move and Max Leonard added the finish for 1-1.
Brushes continued to adopt an aggressive approach to the game and playing with a good tempo forced more vital defending form United’s back four.
Max Leonard wasted a golden opportunity to put Beechy ahead and United squandered other chances before Brushes regained the lead.
In the seventy ninth minute the referee failed to spot a deliberate handball by a Brushes player and a few seconds later the visitors number 9 scored from the edge of the area.
Six minutes later United got their second equaliser after a long throw by Max Leonard resulted in a goalmouth scramble and Wes Pierce hammered the ball past the keeper from close range.
