The Prime Minister has recognised the people of Salford for their efforts in the aftermath of the Boxing Day floods.
David Cameron hosted a reception at 10 Downing Street in London to pay tribute to organisations, agencies, community groups and individuals who were involved in flood relief operations across the country.
Lee Sugden, chief executive at housing association Salix Homes, and Roger Baldry, from Salford charity the Broughton Trust, were invited to represent Salford at the event on Monday, March 21.
The Boxing Day floods were the worst to hit Salford in 70 years affecting more than 400 properties on the Spike Island and Riverside estates in Lower Broughton, including 300 properties owned by Salix Homes.
Lee Sugden said: “The events of Boxing Day 2015 will go down in Salford’s history for the heartache and devastation it brought to hundreds of people in our city, but amid all the distress and chaos the Salford community came together in a way only Salfordians can and that will never be forgotten.
“In the immediate aftermath of that dreadful day, and even now three months later, the community, local charities, organisations and businesses pulled together in our hour of need and while our recovery and repair operation continues that Salford spirit remains strong.
“It was a real honour for me, on behalf of Salix Homes, to represent at Downing Street every single Salford hero involved in the flood relief effort and to share their stories with the Prime Minister.”
