Beechy grab vital championship point

Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team faced their biggest game of the season with an away trip to play AFC Middleton.

United went into the match top of the First Division table with AFC Middleton four points behind and two games in hand.

AFC Middleton looked stronger in the early stages and it was clear to Beechy that their opponents were in favour of the long ball tactic and the home team opened the scoring when a cross into the area from the Middleton right back was met by team mate Danny Murray who’s header made it 1-0. United quickly got their act together and the match became more competitive but Beechy were still that one goal down at the interval.

Into the second half and United defended much better and it was obvious that during his half time team talk Manager Graham Rothwell had made sure Beechy were more organised in dealing with the threat of Middleton’s long ball style of play.

Beechy grew in confidence and created lots of chances with Man of the Match Wes Pierce in great form in midfield and United equalised when leading goal scorer Max Leonard broke the offside trap before producing a neat finish.

The game ended 1-1 meaning the return fixture on 23rd April at Salford Sports Village will be crucial to United if they are to retain their First Division title.
