Logistics North – a new and flexible bus service for commuters

A new transport link to help boost access to major new employment site ‘Logistics North’ will launch next week.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has worked with developer Harworth Estates and local councils in Bolton, Salford and Wigan to launch ‘Logistics North Link’, a flexible bus service to help more people get to work.

From Monday 18 April the shared transport service will run to the Logistics North development, off the A6 near Farnworth, which is a key strategic employment site for Greater Manchester as well as Bolton.

Anyone living in the local service area – which covers parts of Bolton, Wigan and Salford – can book a journey to travel to Logistics North from their home or another nearby convenient location.

People simply need to register once and can then book journeys online or by phone for up to one week before, with just an hour’s notice needed.

For people travelling from outside the area, pickups for the shared service can also be booked for journeys from local bus and train stations, including Bolton and Farnworth Bus Stations and seven local train stations.

The service will run every day (except Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year’s Day) to meet start and finish shift times, from 5am to 9am, 2pm to 6pm and 7pm to 1.30
am. A range of affordable fares include concessions, singles and money saving return, 4-day and weekly tickets.
Full service details are now available at www.tfgm.com/locallink.

Howard Hartley, TfGM Head of Bus, said: “Logistics North Link is designed to meet people’s individual travel needs and couldn’t be easier to use.

“With fares starting at £1, it’s affordable and convenient, picking you up anywhere in the service area to get you to work on time – whether that’s from home or your local bus or train station.

“Transport is a key factor when considering new employment opportunities, and we expect Logistics North Link to play a key role in the success of this major industrial development. By providing an affordable, sustainable way to connect local people to jobs we also aim to keep polluting car journeys off the road.”

Providing up to 3.5 million square feet of office, manufacturing and warehousing floor space, Logistics North is expected to deliver around 7,750 permanent jobs. Aldi has relocated its Regional Distribution Centre there and MBDA and JoyGlobal will also soon be on site.

TfGM’s Travel Choices team will be visiting major employers both before and after they move to Logistics North and engaging with local recruitment agencies to promote the service and encourage public transport use to the site.

Developer of Logistics North, Harworth Estates, has provided funding to Bolton Council to support this new service.
Full details of the Logistics North Link including fares and concessions are available at http://www.tfgm.com/buses/local_link/ or by calling 0161 200 6012, where people can also register to use the service and book journeys.
(Lines open 7am–8pm Mon to Fri, 8am–8pm Sat, Sun and public holidays. Lines are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.)
