Police are hunting a man who is subject to a European arrest warrant and believed to be working in Bolton under an alias.
Istvan Mikes (15/03/1976) from Pecs, Hungary is wanted by Hungarian authorities for grievous bodily harm and robbery.
This is in relation to an incident where a man forcefully entered the home of a 94-year-old man, assaulted him and left him with life threatening injuries before stealing cash, china and jewellery.
A European arrest warrant has now been issued for Mikes, who is believed to be working and residing in Bolton under the alias of ‘Robert Horvath’.
A picture of him has been released by Hungarian authorities however since it was taken he has started losing his hair and now has a closely shaved balding hairstyle.
Police Constable Paul Holding of GMP’s Bolton Division said: “We are searching for this man on behalf of the Hungarian authorities and believe he may be living and working in Bolton.
“I think it goes without saying how serious the offences this man is wanted in connection with must be if a European arrest warrant has been issued for him.
“We believe he is using the alias Robert Horvath although it is possible that anybody who knows him well will know his real name is Istvan Mikes.
“If anybody knows where this man is or thinks they have information that can help then I would urge them to please contact police.”
Anybody with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
