Police appeal after woman left in critical condition after burglary in Cheetham

Police are investigating after an aggravated burglary has left a woman in hospital in a critical condition.

At around 11:15pm on Monday 25 April 2016, police were called to St Marks Lane, Cheetham to reports that three men had broken into a house before assaulting a woman inside and stealing a number of items. The men then got into a small vehicle and drove off.

The woman suffered serious head injuries during the attack and was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A number of road closures will be put in place this morning, Tuesday 26 April 2016, as officers carry out further enquiries at the scene.

Detective Inspector Carl Gilbert of Greater Manchester Police said: “First and foremost I would like to say that our thoughts are with this woman who remains in hospital in a critical condition after sustaining life threatening injuries.

“Although our investigation is at an early stage, our initial enquiries have established that three men broke into a property on St Marks Lane before assaulting this woman, stealing a number of items and leaving in a small vehicle.

“Given the timing of the incident, people who live in the area may have noticed something suspicious or heard something out of the ordinary which may be able to assist us with our enquiries.

“If you have any information that you think may help us then please contact police as a matter of urgency.”
