The extraordinary record of success for Salford Community Leisure supported swimmers has continued with 12 year old Jacob Chambers becoming National Age Group Champion at the British Cerebral Palsy Championships in Nottingham.
Jacob came first to take the Gold Medal in the 50metre Backstroke and gained Bronze Medals in the 50 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle – despite competing against swimmers up to two years older than himself.
He adds to the success of fellow Salford swimmer Will Holland-Leavens who became a five-time world record holder in the CP World Championships last year.
Jacob, who lives in Eccles, is part of the SCL Competitive Training Scheme and competes for the City of Salford Swimming Club. He is coached by Kris Wyzlic.
John Stout, Aquatic Development manager, saluted Jacob’s achievement in becoming the scheme’s second CP National champion. “Jacob has worked tremendously hard and thoroughly deserves recognition for his achievements.
“We have a proud history of producing champions and integrating swimmers with disabilities into our training scheme. The Paralympic trials are later this month and Salford swimmers Jack Sheffield and Will Holland-Leavens will be competing. We all hope that Jacob continues his development and will be representing Salford at the next trials in four years time.”
