Homes in Beaufort Avenue, Swinton were evacuated this morning, Friday, 6 May following reports of a strong smell of gas.
Emergency services attended at 10.15am and found that a man had accidentally cut through a gas pipe whilst doing D.I.Y. work at his home.
Firecrews from Agecroft and Eccles attended and helped with the evacuation.
The National Grid cut off the supply of gas to the houses as a safety measure whilst repair work was carried out.
All residents have been allowed back into their houses whilst the repair work is finished.
