Salford’s Ceremonial Mayor Peter Dobbs officially opened a new Care and Support Hub for people with learning disabilities and other support needs in Swinton on Wednesday,4 May 2016.
Provided by Creative Support, Swinton Care and Support Hub offers practical support to adults of all ages living with a learning disability, physical disability, mental health related needs or other support needs. The Hub also provides activities such as arts and crafts, games and horticultural opportunities for service users and volunteers. Currently, the Hub caters for adults living in supported housing in Swinton, Clifton and Pendlebury, but Creative Support is looking to strengthen links with local groups to benefit the wider community.
Wednesday’s launch event saw Ceremonial Mayor Peter Dobbs and his Consort Alan Davis meet with service users and staff, providing an opportunity to discuss the support provision and officially open the Hub with a ribbon cutting. Music and refreshments were enjoyed by all, including local community organisations.
Creative Support Service Manager, Zetta Edwards said: “Today’s been lovely, Mayor Peter Dobbs really added a sense of occasion to the launch, and everyone has really enjoyed themselves. It’s been great to have such variety of people visiting the Hub, and seeing staff and service users from different supported living houses reconnecting and having a good time. It’s also been great to open the Hub up to the community and to network with other services. It’s something we’d like to do on a regular basis as making these links is so beneficial to our service users.”
