EU In or Out? Green Party leader to debate in Manchester

The leader of the Green Party, Natalie Bennett, will host an open debate in Manchester on whether Britain should leave or stay in the EU.

At the Friends Meeting House this Thursday 12 May a panel of politicians, educators and activists will talk through the impact leaving the European Union could have on science, the arts, work and employment and young people.

With just over a month to go, the Greens fear there is not enough information out there for people to make such an important decision.

A referendum on EU membership will take place on Thursday 23 June when polling stations will be open across Salford between 7am and 10pm.

The debate this week is free and open to all.

Natalie Bennett is due to explain why she believes why we should remain in the EU and the relevance of the Green voice in the debate.

Other speakers include Professor Alice Bows-Larkin from the University of Manchester’s Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research; Ed Yates, who covers youth unemployment for the Universities of Leicester and Manchester and Maggie Clarke, Director of outdoor arts and events group XTRAX.

Manchester Green Party Chairs Astrid Johnson says: “The event is an important one to set up as there still seems to be a lot of confusion in Manchester and further afield over the perception of the EU and its role in our day to day lives.

“We hope that our healthy debate will help people to make an educated decision on 23rd June.”

Thursday 12th May, 7-9pm, Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, M2 5NS
