‘GRAN PRIX’ challenge backed by Angela Rippon and GransNet

A new ‘Gran Prix’ competition has been launched to find Britain’s most passionate female car fan aged over 60. Created by electric car campaign Go Ultra Low, and spearheaded by former BBC Top Gear presenter, Angela Rippon, the competition aims to demonstrate that older women can be as fanatical about autos as their younger, male counterparts.

The challenge, which runs until 1 August, is open to any woman aged over 60 who has a love of cars. Entries can be made on the Go Ultra Low Facebook page at www.facebook.com/goultralow or by emailing granprix@goultralow.com.

Entrants are asked to describe their passion for cars, and why they should win, in no more than 50 words. The prize includes a VIP driving track day and performance driving lessons in an electric car.

Angela Rippon said: “As a driving enthusiast myself, I think it’s really important that we recognise the passion that exists among women as well as men of all ages. The ‘Gran Prix’ competition aims to do exactly that, and we’re looking forward to seeing entries from four-wheel fanatical females across the country.”

Poppy Welch, Head of the Go Ultra Low campaign, which is backed by the Government and the automotive industry, added: “Electric cars are high performance, fun and exciting – characteristics that every driver looks for, not just younger ones. People of all ages love our vehicles – women over 60 just as much as anybody else. ‘Gran Prix’ is our way of saluting that important demographic of motorist.”

Go Ultra Low’s ‘Gran Prix’ competition is also being backed by online forum, GransNet, which will share information about the challenge across its social media channels for the next month.
