Salford thug sentenced for brutal attack on pet dog

A man who punched his own dog in the head after it tried to go to the toilet in a tower block lift has been sentenced.

Paul Barratt, 32, of Spruce Court in Salford, was arrested after video emerged of the owner violently attacking his pet, called Storm, in February.

RSCPA officials told the court that Barratt had not let Storm out of his flat for 17 hours when it tried to defecate in the lift.

Barratt was seen entering the lift kicking and dragging the black Laborador by the lead.

He faced two counts of failing to meet the needs of an animal.

Storm was also removed from his care and placed into the hands of the RSPCA.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today, Monday 16 May, the 32-year-old was sentenced to a 16-week curfew period, banned for keeping animals for four years and ordered to pay £400 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
