In the Tameside Football League Beechfield United Under 15’s Predators secured a trophy winning double adding the League Cup to the Challenge Cup following a 3-1 victory over Youth Kicks.
The venue for the final was once again the Butchers Ground home of Droylsden FC and Beechy had the luxury of taking the lead via a brilliant goal scored by Man of the Match Brandon Kent. Youth Kicks equalised when the referee ruled in their favour awarding a goal when clearly the whole of the ball didn’t cross the goal line.
It remained 1-1 at half time but United continued to dominate the final and two goals in the second half from Jamie Pollitt guaranteed Beechy another piece of silverware. The Predators can still win the JFC Sports Division if they get maximum points from their remaining two games.
The Under 15’s Tornadoes met De La Salle in a midweek fixture and collected the three points following a solid all-round display. Joseph Furlong netted a hat-trick and Keiran Alley with a couple of goals were on target as United won this Bolton Bury and District League Section C home game 5-0.
Playing away against Division 1 leaders Barr Hill Diamonds the Under 13’s Tornadoes made an impressive start to the match.
Beechy’s tactics were spot-on in the early stages as they restricted their opponents to shooting from long distance. But despite looking the better team in the first half United failed to score a deserved goal and in the second half the Tornadoes were again denied by the Barr Hill goalie who produced fine saves to keep out efforts from Jeanny Le Blanc and Ademola Olasanya.
A header by Joe Bardsley was forced into the net by Ademola Olasanya but the goal was disallowed for offside. In the 55th minute Barr Hill took the lead via a speculative shot from outside the area and almost immediately the home side added a second goal. Despite a valiant effort to find a way back into the contest the Tornadoes conceded two more goals in the remaining ten minutes and though Beechy suffered a 4-0 defeat this was a superb all-round performance. The Man of the Match Award went to George Leigh.
United’s Under 12’s Tornadoes (9v9) were involved in a great game with Winton Yellows that constantly flowed from end to end. In Division 3 both teams produced some top-quality attacking soccer and United came out on top thanks to a 3-2 victory. There was a hat-trick for Joe Staley who was also named Man of the Match.
Billy Wadeson and Jack Thompson scored the goals for the Under 12’s Storm (9v9) who were at home to Broughton Community. The visitors won this Division 1 match played at Beech Farm 4-2 and voted the Storm’s Best Player was Dominic Green.
Away to St Andrews All-Stars the Under 11’s Thunder (9v9) were guilty of another slow start and found themselves a goal within five minutes. But quickly getting their act together United settled down and playing some delightful football showed both grit and determination.
Samuel Oludoyi opened the scoring for the Thunder and it eventually turned out to be a goal fest for the Beechy boys. Other goalscorers were Harvey Walker, Prince Idusuyi, Ishor Bajgai, and Reiss Miller while a special mention goes to Jake O’Sullivan who was goalkeeper in the second half and played a major part in helping set up one of the goals.
Producing a below-par display in the Development Group Green Division were the Under 11’s Tornadoes (9v9) who’s opponents Winton Yellows won the contest. Sam Jones fired home a consolation goal for Beechy.
Beechy Under 10’s Tornadoes have recently hit a rich vein of form and the trend continued in the home game against Flixton Panthers. Jack Fitton collected the Best Player Award and on target were Harley Davidson (hat-trick) Kaiden McClean and Harley Kirk.
For the second time in seven days the Under 9’s Lightning met a Prestwich Juniors outfit. In the Development Group Green Division United played Prestwich Tigers at Beech Farm. Man of the Match Sam Henderson netted a consolation goal for Beechy.
The sun came out early for the Under 9’s Typhoon versus Moorside Rangers Blue friendly match. In a tight and entertaining game United struggled to score goals but the defence of Harry Davies, Freddie Latham and Harley Bentley made it just as difficult for Rangers to find a goal. The deadlock was eventually broken when Peter Ellis was successful from the penalty spot. Ronan Mullen got a second goal for the Typhoon with the last kick of the match from a pass by Sonny O’Brien.
Local rivals Moorside Rangers Green were the Under 8’s Hurricanes opponents in the Development Group Yellow Division. Brett McWilliams scored a hat-trick for the Hurricanes who were on the wrong end of a seven goal score line. Man of the Match was Edward Lucas.
Also in the Development Group Yellow Division Beechy Under 8’s Storm were in action against a Rangers outfit. Noah O’Connor and Grace Belcher shared the Player of the Match Award following the away game with Moorside Yellows.
Creating a fantastic game of football were the Under 8’s Tornadoes and Moorside Rangers Blue who opened the scoring courtesy of a long range effort. Beechy responded with two brilliantly worked goals scored by Joshua Taylor but Rangers found an equaliser. Another cleverly worked corner resulted in Man of the Match Ellis O’Brien-Walsh putting United back in front a lead they held at the break. The second half produced a similar pattern with both teams continuing to play some really nice football and Rangers managed to equalise again. The action moved rapidly from end to end and United conceded again but responded with a spectacular equaliser from Joel Thorndyke. Somehow Rangers found a match winner via a long range strike.
The Under 7’s Storm leading marksman Kylan Twigg was on top-form in the away game with De La Salle Devils when his five goal tally guaranteed victory for Beechy in the Development Group Yellow Division. United’s Man of the Match was Ewan Tierney who scored the other goal.
In the friendly match with AFC Monton Tigers the Under 7’s Tornadoes created a brilliant comeback after conceding four first half goals. Man of the Match Fletcher Jackson, Harry Jones, Harvey Riva and Anthony Hughes were on target as Beechy battled back to force a draw.
Beechy Under 7’s Hurricanes travelled to play Ladybridge Lions for a 9am kick off in the Development Group Red Division. Goalscorer for the Hurricanes was Ethan Harris.
