Networking event at Eccles Mosque to give latest on local projects

Eccles Mosque is to host the next Eccles network event where you can find out about local projects and meet new people.

The two-hour event takes place on Tuesday 24 May from 6–8 pm.

There will be stalls from Greater Manchester Police, Eccles Health Improvement Team, City West Housing, and Barton Athletic, who are due to give an update on the progress of building their new home.

The famous sports club was formed in 1953 by the legendary Max Shacklady, an amateur boxing champion who fought for Great Britain at the London 1948 Olympic Games.

Over the years the club has been bounced around from several temporary homes, starting life at a barn at Max Shacklady’s farm on Barton Moss, before occupying the former Eccles Drill Hall on Cromwell Road in Eccles from 1974 to 2003 (now demolished – see here why) and then the old nursery on Dorning Street in Eccles.

As well as project updates there will be tour of the Mosque and information on the upcoming month-long festival of Ramadan which starts on 6 June and in which all Muslims fast during daylight hours.

Refreshments are available and the event is completely free and everyone is welcome.
