Monton is recreating a famous Bollywood dance routine to raise funds for St. Ann’s Hospice.
A group of local traders and residents, all amateurs, are dancing for charity at Eccles Liberal Club over May bank holiday weekend.
Each dancer has been raising individual sponsors and are set to raise £200 so far, with more sponsors coming on board each day.
The Monton Dance Team will be performing, ‘Mahi Ve’ from the much-loved film ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho.’
Organiser Jenny Thomas says, “‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ actually means ‘tomorrow may not come’ and in line with the ethos of Bollywood, stresses the need to enjoy every moment in life.
“It’s a point of view that is particularly relevant, given that we are fund raising for a hospice, a place where people suffering from terminal illness can spend their remaining days.”
It has the backing of the local community with local businesses covering the costs of events, donating raffle prizes, food for the buffet and local beauticians stepping forward to make sure the dance team look their best on the day.
The performance will be part of an evening’s entertainment which includes live music, Indian Drummer Dholi and a special appearance from World Champion Irish Dancer, John Mulgrew.
The event is open to anyone who would like to join in the fun and cheer the girls on, children/families welcome.
Tickets for the event are £5 and are available from Monton Post office and Sunset Boulevard, Monton Road.
Tickets cost £5 which covers cost of admission and food will be available on the night in return for donation.
The event is taking place on Saturday 28 May between 7.30pm to 10.00pm and all proceeds go to St Ann’s Hospice.
