1980s Beechfield FC mystery photograph explained

Players and families have come forward in their droves to help SalfordOnline.com fill out the names on this historic picture of Beechfield United FC juniors in the early 1980.

We are delighted to tell you that we received several comments about the team and we think we have managed to name them all, thanks to reader, Stephen Done who sent us the following information.

“This is a photo of the Beechfield Utd Under 8/9’s team of 1985/86.

“This team went on to be the most successful Beechfield team of its era winning league after league, cup after cup including the Manchester County Cup.

“I am Stephen Done fourth from the left back row.

“The manager pictured is Barry Salisbury who shortly after this picture stood down to run a younger team and my father George Done took over.

“With Beechfield back in the late 80’s and early nineties we toured Europe twice or three times playing friendly’s in Belgium Germany and Holland!

“This team had many great players but probably the most noticeable being Mike Twiss who signed professional contracts with both Manchester United and Sheffield United to name a couple, Mike is fifth from the left front row”.

This team pictured is as follows:

Back row:
Barry Salisbury (manager), Danny Watson, Stephen Done, Carl Openshaw, Scott Sandford, Nicky Poynton, Nathan Brady.

Front row:
Bobby Hodgson, Neil Rothwell, Martin Carrington, Ian Gibson, Mike Twiss, Paul Vernon.

Conratulations to Stephen for clearing up the mystery for club Secretary Keith Long, and if you played on this cup-winning team why not contact us with your memories and team photos?
