By Peter Flatley

Swinton Moorside returned to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing win against Daisy Hill despite having three senior players missing.

The mid-morning rain delayed the start and reduced the game to a 31 over match.

Batting first the Swinton openers James Wade and George Higham made a steady start.

They took the score to 52 when Higham fell for a well-crafted 22.

The middle order did not fare well as Flynn, Farrell and the Norvall brothers all fell for single figure scores.

However at the other end Wade continued his fine form, taking his score past 50 for the fourth time this season.

At 127-5 Swinton could have ended with 150 but when Peter Kay joined Wade the scoring rate increased, Kay normally the joker in the pack, played a very sensible innings he helped Wade push the score past 150 and with the overs running out, a late flourish from Wade saw him pass three figures for the first time this season.

Wade finally fell for an excellent 107 whilst Kay ended up on 29no as Swinton posted a healthy 200-7.

Daisy Hill’s reply started slowly they reached 27 before a mix up saw opener Ali run out.

The Swinton opening bowlers Matt Norvall and Raffey Khan then took control.

27-1 soon became 31-4 with two wickets to Norvall and one to Khan, Brad Palmer replaced Khan and Dean Davies replaced Norvall, both bowlers were soon in the wickets as the Daisy hill innings fell away.

They were bowled out in the 28th over for 128 with the wickets being shared between the bowlers, Khan 1-24, Norvall 2-19, Davies 3-36, Palmer 3-48.

The win keeps Swinton in sixth place.
