Parents who would like their children to travel to school by yellow school bus are urged to apply for a pass by Tuesday 31 May 2016.
Children who are allocated a pass are guaranteed a seat on a yellow school bus to and from school during the next academic year (September 2016 – July 2017) for those Greater Manchester schools that are served by a yellow bus service. The passes are free to apply for: pupils then purchase single, return or weekly tickets on the bus.
Nick Roberts, Head of Services & Commercial Development for Transport for Greater Manchester, said: “Children must have a pass to travel on a yellow school bus and applications are dealt with according to pupils’ home addresses. Applying by 31 May will increase a child’s chances of being issued with a pass, although places are limited so applying before this date does not guarantee your child a place.
“We spend June reviewing the addresses of applicants and allocating each child to the most appropriate service. It also enables us to revise routes, if required, in order to better meet the needs of the pupils. It is therefore vital that we have applications in by the end of May.
“This applies to children who are renewing their yellow school pass and new users of the services – including current year 6 children who will start secondary school in September.”
Details of the Greater Manchester schools served by yellow school buses and their current routes are available on TfGM’s web site – although these are subject to change for the 2016/2017 school year.
