A 21-year-old man is in custody charged with possession of a blade after a brawl broke out in Eccles.

Police were called shortly before midnight on Tuesday 23 June to The Eccles Cross Wetherspoons pub on Regent Street, Eccles, following reports of a fight between several people and a man brandishing a knife.

It is believed that a fight started at the Eccles Metrolink tram stop when a man wielding a bottle threaten to cut a 59-year-old man.

The set-to continued when the victim tried to escape into the Eccles Cross pub but was followed over the road by several men.

A SalfordOnline.com reader who wants to remain anonymous told us: “I popped into the Eccles Cross for one and a bunch of guys started fighting amongst themselves.

“One punched the barmaid who intervened, then pulled a knife on the barman, who took the knife off him.

“They were then expelled by a bunch of locals and are continuing to fight outside.”

A police source confirmed that a 21-year-old man had been arrested and charged with possession of an offensive weapon, understood to be a lock knife.

The man is still in custody at Swinton Police Station.

A manager at the Eccles Cross pub declined to comment this morning.
