Salford City College celebrates student success at prestigious awards ceremony

Last week students, guests, governors and staff from Salford City College celebrated the end of another fantastic year at the annual Salford City College Awards.

The prestigious event, which was held at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles, was a celebration of the most outstanding students from each subject area across the College’s five centres; Pendleton, Eccles, Walkden, City Skills and FutureSkills.

The special guest speaker at the ceremony was Oldham-born Simon Wood, who earlier this year was crowned as the winner of MasterChef 2015. Simon spoke about his personal highlights from his MasterChef journey, and the inspirational people he met along the way.

Referencing the fact that he cooked most of his winning dishes for the very first time in the final, as he was having to stay in a hotel in London throughout the competition, Simon’s final message to students was to: “Never give up…if you are pursuing a career you love, anything is possible as long as you have the drive to succeed and the willingness to work hard.”

Awards were then given out to those who had been nominated by their tutors as an ‘outstanding student’ in their subject area, whether based on their level of improvement, dedication to their studies, or their excellent academic attainment.

The evening’s proceedings were led by Centre Principal Andrea Murphy, with a special welcome from the College’s new CEO and Principal, John Spindler.

In his speech, John Spindler said: “Salford City College was recently announced as the top performing college in Greater Manchester, based on the success rates for our 16-18 year old student, and therefore this evening is also a celebration of those outstanding students who have contributed to this fantastic achievement”
