Salford school receives letter from the Queen


Form 1 pupils from Branwood Preparatory School in Monton, Salford, are delighted to have received some “Royal mail” in the form of a thank you note from Queen Elizabeth II this week.

The class sent Her Majesty a birthday card earlier in the year on 21st April. The Queen and her lady in waiting kindly replied to the class’ birthday wishes with a royal thank you card.

The card read: “The Queen wishes me to thank you for the card which you have sent on the occasion of Her Majesty’s ninetieth birthday.”

The class, aged between 5 and 6, were very excited when they opened the specially marked envelope which they received on 6th June.

Form 1 teacher, Mrs Houseman, said: “We wanted to wish The Queen a very happy birthday and celebrate her services to the country. The lovely message from Her Majesty and her ladies in waiting was a surprise and the children are absolutely delighted to receive a Royal acknowledgement.”

Head Teacher, Mrs Follett, said: “I am thrilled that Her Majesty has recognised the thought and hard work that the children have put into making the special birthday card. We will all be watching the Trooping of the Colour, celebrating Her Majesty’s birthday with the country.”

The Queen will celebrate her birthday officially today,Saturday 11th June, with the Trooping of the Colour.

Branwood Preparatory School, on Stafford Road in Monton is a primary school in the heart of Ellesmere Park and has been preparing children for entrance exams to the finest secondary schools in the Greater Manchester area for 85 years.
