Salford kids become Barristers for the day

Pupils from Branwood Preparatory School in Monton, Salford, recently took a trip to Manchester Crown Courts and Greater Manchester Police Museum where they learned all about law.

The children in Form 4, aged between 8 and 9, spent the day learning about a barrister’s role during a trial as well as the process of an arrest.

Mrs Follett, Head Teacher of Branwood School, was put up for a mock trial and was cross examined for evidence by the class.

The trip also included time at the Greater Manchester Police Museum which holds the archives to GMP’s rich history.

The budding Branwood barristers got to see how policing in the city has changed, as well as the procedure of charging and prosecuting offenders.

Mrs Follett, who was dismissed of her ‘crimes’ by the children, said: “The trip helped the children to understand how the judicial system works from the beginning to the very end. They were all very enthusiastic, and had a great time cross examining me during our mock trial.”
