Art students from the University of Salford have been selected to have their work shown at the newly developed Tate Modern’s opening weekend.
The three artists’ work will be exhibited digitally in the Tate’s Late Futures exhibition, where it can be seen by tens of thousands of visitors in the flagship London art gallery.
Third year Visual Arts student Valerie Savchits, third year Photography student Helen Burt and second year Fashion student Lauren Corless, all get a spot in the gallery’s Turbine Hall from Friday June 17 until Sunday June 19.
Their work was chosen from hundreds of submissions by young creatives around the world.
The exhibition is part of a huge opening weekend at the Tate Modern, which has been expanded following a £260m redevelopment project to include a 10 storey high tower, refurbished underground oil tanks for live performances, and a 22ft tree sculpture by the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.
Another piece by Valerie Savchits is also currently being displayed on digital screens on the second floor of the Saatchi Gallery.
Rosie Miller, director of art and design at the University of Salford, said: “The Tate Modern is the UK’s flagship gallery and this opening weekend will attract thousands of art lovers from around the world, while the Saatchi Gallery is one of the most prestigious galleries in the country.
“The fact that our students’ work has been selected to be shown at two of London’s leading art galleries demonstrates the remarkable talent that exists here in Salford and the incredibly high standards across our art and design courses.”
