Co-op Food eye move into Vimto Gardens

The Co-operative is planning to open a new food store on Chapel Street in Salford in the ground floor of apartment block Vimto Gardens.

The 4,208sq ft store is due to be unveiled in Unit One, on the Islington Way side of the six-storey development.

Salford City Council have granted a licence application for the food and alcohol store to open 6am to 11pm, seven days a week.

If the plan goes ahead it would be the second commercial let in this mixed-use block.

Vimto Gardens four Commercial Units

Italian restaurant and takeaway Vero Moderno were the first to take space back in March in the 1,625sq ft Unit Four.

All 83 flats and 14 townhouses at the development have now sold out.

Vimto Gardens was one of the first schemes to be built as part of a huge £650 million Salford Central scheme by the English Cities Fund (ECf), designed to regenerate the traffic-clogged and unsightly Chapel Street corridor.

Huge amounts of cash is being pumped into the area.

In January 2014 ECf agreed £60m of forward funding from Legal & General Property for One New Bailey and a nine-storey NCP 615-space car park on Irwell Street.

18 months later Legal & General agreed another £16 million funding for a 90-apartment block near Salford Central train station.
