Hazardous waste truck crashes on M62 at Eccles


A lorry believed to be carrying hazardous waste has crashed on the M62 near Eccles.

Emergency services were called out to the westbound carriageway of the motorway between Junction 12 at Croft and Junction 11 at Eccles at 11.55am on Monday 27 June.

It’s understood a car collided with the HGV, which veered off the road onto an embankment and came to a stop in the long grass.

One lane is closed heading towards Liverpool and traffic delays are expected until around 2pm on Monday.

Firefighters from Greater Manchester’s Technical Response Unit are looking at the hazardous materials, which are contained in steel drums in the rear of the lorry.

They will assess the stablility of the vehicle and the possibilty of removing any leaking canisters.

Drivers are being asked to pass with care, Highways England says, but there is not thought to be any immediate danger to other road users.
