The attack left him hospitalised with a fracture to the right-hand side of his skull.

Police believe he was punched in the face, causing a heavy cut above his left eye, before he fell to the ground, smashing his head on the pavement.

From the injuries he received it’s understood that while he lay on the ground, at least one person repeatedly stamped on his head.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Earlier that night the victim had been drinking with family in The Lyndale snooker hall on Church Street.

When he left he was with his stepmother, walking towards Morrisons.

It was then that the attack happened.

Family have been told by police that no other CCTV cameras were operational at the time of the attack.

Anyone who may have witnessed the attack, or who was in The Lyndale or around Eccles bus station late on Sunday 19 June, is asked to pass any information to Greater Manchester Police on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
