Emergency services were called to Broad Street at 3.35pm today, Tuesday 28 June after receiving reports of an abandoned car blocking traffic at traffic lights.
The vehicle a red Audi A3 was left with the engine running and doors open.
This has caused traffic tailbacks for traffic coming from Manchester to Salford stretching back along the Crescent.
Firecrews are checking the car for possible oil leaks and are preparing to have the vehicle towed away.
Motorists are advised that traffic delays will be expected for the next hour.
