The Charlatans lead singer Tim Burgess launched his new book in front of a small group of die-hard fans at Salford Lads’ Club last night.
‘Tim Book Two: Vinyl Adventures from Istanbul to San Francisco’ sees Burgess travel around the globe in search of his favourite people’s most-loved records.
Burgess seemed in good spirits back in his home town, as he regularly joked with the crowd and even read an extract from the new book.
Former Manchester United star and lover of Manchester music Gary Neville was also present at the historical venue in Ordsall.
For the reasons behind the book title’s play on words Burgess said: “That (the title) was the catalyst for writing the book!
“I joked that Tim Book Two would be coming very soon.”
Burgess recollected his first exposures to music, which he admits was one of the reasons behind the book: “It all started as a kid, listening to the Osmans – I was 6 so that’s forgivable!
“Then when I was at primary school I saw Vibrators on Top of the Pops and it was automatic love.”

The 49-year-old from Salford is arguably something of an entrepreneur, having founded his own record label ‘O Genesis’ in 2011 and has also created his own coffee brand called ‘Tim Peaks’.
On his writing career Burgess added: “I love writing action – I have to have a lot of action in my books.
“The total joy of writing this book was getting all of the (vinyl) recommendations in.
“It became about my relationship with the record and my adventure with finding the record.”
Recently moved to Norfolk, Burgess has been part of The Charlatans for 27 years, they have realised 12 studio albums with the most recent, ‘Modern Nature’ coming in 2015.
