British Transport Police have revealed shocking real-time CCTV footage of children and young people dodging trains and climbing into potentially life-threatening positions.
The video has been released as the summer holidays take hold.
It shows some trespassers walking onto or lying down on train tracks as vehicles approach stations at high speed.
It’s all in a bid to highlight the dangers of playing on railways or taking shortcuts along train tracks.
BTP say that in the last 10 years, almost 170 people have lost their lives trespassing on the railway.
Almost half of those killed were under 25.
A spokesperson for the authority said: “Most trespassers say taking a shortcut was their main motivation, followed by thrill-seeking. But walking along or messing around on the tracks can result in serious life-changing injuries or death.
“We’re doing all we can to keep people safe by patrolling areas we know where trespass is likely to happen and stopping people from getting on to the railway.”
The BTP police all the railways in Britain and deal with accidents, emergencies and other life-threatening situations.
They’re now calling on parents and young people to “take a reality check” when it comes to trespassing and educate their children
