Man charged after high-speed police chase ends at Salford Crescent station


A man has been charged with dangerous driving after police chase through the streets of Salford ended with a car dumped on tracks at Salford Crescent railway station.

Four people were arrested after a police pursued a white Audi A3 through Pendleton and Ordsall mid-morning on Thursday 28 July.

Around 11.30am that day eyewitnesses started to report how police were following the car around the Oldfield Road and Liverpool Street areas of Salford.

Police pursuit drivers from the Specialist Operations Unit tried to pull the car over.

Despite attempts to disable the car the driver managed to evade police in a half-hour chase through residential and shopping streets.

The high-speed chase ended with fleeing suspects dumping the car on train tracks at Salford Crescent station.

Phelim McDonagh, 29, has been charged with dangerous driving and driving without insurance.

Shortly before 11.15am on Thursday 28 July officers received information on an Audi believed to be involved in criminal activity.

Mr McDonagh has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Friday 26 August.
