Salford is celebrating after the city’s GCSE rates improved again.
This year, 52 per cent of pupils achieved five A-C grades including English and mathematics – an increase of four per cent when compared to last year.
Councillor Lisa Stone, Executive Lead Member for Children’s and Young People’s Services at Salford City Council, said: “A huge congratulations goes out to all the pupils for their excellent successes. They are the future of this city and we are incredibly proud of them.
“Their results would not have been possible without the hard work of all the staff and teachers who worked hard to push the pupils as far as they could. They deserve a big thank you and well done.
“Obviously not everyone will have got the results they wanted and I hope they will not be too disappointed. It is important they realise it is not the end of the world and there are plenty of other education, training and work opportunities ahead.”
Pupils at St Patrick’s RC High School in Eccles topped the class in Salford with a staggering 80 per cent of pupils achieving five A-C grades.
Headteacher Rachel Wall, who was awarded Headteacher of the Year at the recent Manchester Evening News Education Awards, said: “To say that I am thrilled with our record-breaking results this year is an understatement! Once again, the belief shown in our pupils has enabled them to go above and beyond in pursuit of the very best grades. This shows that hard work and dedication, coupled with inspirational teaching, can unlock the potential of every child to succeed.”
