Students put on their best Robbie Williams and Journey impressions for karaoke classics, ‘Angels’ and ‘Don’t Stop Believing’, in the 12 hour marathon at the Shock Radio studios, a radio station led by students, at Salford’s MediaCityUK building.
Organised by TV and Radio students, Joe McGrath and Michael Miller, who host the Joe and Miller show on the radio station, this event had an open invite to all those walking by to join in with the sing-a-long, which has currently helped raise over £400 for comic relief.
The organisers really sang their heart out, performing for the whole 12 hours at the event which was broadcast on a live screen around the MediaCityUK building.
Each hour of the karaoke marathon followed a different theme, with the 80s hour showcasing the most memorable karaoke hits with Bon Jovi’s ‘Living on a Prayer’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ making an appearance.
Joe McGrath, who helped organise the marathon, said: “Michael Miller and I decided we wanted to do something for Comic Relief way back in 2014. The most important thing for us was to keep it in the spirit of the charity and make it fun! 12 hours of karaoke was our earliest idea and it stuck with us.
“It was fun and engaging for fellow students to come in and sing with us. Our voices are now recovered and we would love to do another event like this again, it was a fantastic day.”
