Ordsall gets the ‘Barksy’ treatment

If you have happened to walk around Ordsall of late you may have seen one or ‘ruff’-looking animals knocking about.

Not to worry – this is down to Ordsall Community Café and Dogs Trust – who have opened workshops for volunteers to design and create the aesthetic animal silhouettes.

The project was organised by Anna Baatz, Dogs Trust Education and Community Officer along with Matthew Payne, Cats Protection Community Neutering Officer with help from Ordsall Community Arts and Ordsall Community Café.

Anna explains: “The project focused on the importance of being a responsible pet owner through measures such as having your pets neutered to help reduce the thousands of unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats found on our streets every year.

“We created 60 silhouettes and are having great fun choosing where to place them around Ordsall where they will best grab people’s attention.

“Each one has the hashtag #OrdsallCatsandDogs painted on them and it has already created a huge buzz on social media in Salford and beyond.”

Matthew says: “Lots of people have definitely learnt how getting their pet neutered not only helps them as owners avoid the unwanted costs associated with unplanned litters, but also how it can help their pet avoid many health issues.

“It’s the first time we’ve tried to spread the word this way and it has been a great success.”

The silhouettes will be being placed around the streets of Ordsall over the coming weeks.
