Brooklyn crew stage surprise dance-off at Victoria Metrolink stop

Metrolink passengers were treated to a surprise performance by some of Brooklyn’s finest street dancers yesterday.

Flex dance pioneer Reggie ‘Regg Roc’ Gray and a specially assembled team of dancers put on a show for passengers at the Manchester Victoria tram stop, showcasing some unique dance moves.

The troupe is in town for the Manchester International Festival, which sees their first European performances.

A crew of dancers held a street-style dance off at the new-look Victoria stop for over twenty minutes, to the delight of onlookers.

The FlexN dancers shed their Metrolink vests for a dance combining contortionist moves and an extraordinary range of styles – pausing, gliding, hat tricks, connecting, bone-breaking and get low.

In the run up to the MIF15, the FlexN team has made a series of trips to Manchester to seek out like-minded talented Manchester dancers and crews to work on a very special performance, taking place over six days from 11-18 July at the Old Granada Studios.

Metrolink Director Peter Cushing said: “It’s not every day our passengers are treated to such an astounding display at one of our tram stops.
“It’s an amazing dance style and anyone who missed out on this sneak preview can take a look at video on our Facebook page.
“As a Silver Supporter for MIF15, we’ve been working closely with festival organisers and I’m sure plenty of people will be travelling in by tram to catch a show.
“During the festival there will be a combination of tram and shuttle bus services providing links to and through the city, so you can leave the car behind. Make sure you plan your journey by visiting our website or speaking to our customer service staff.”

Due to major construction works on a bigger, better Metrolink tram stop, there are currently no tram services running through St Peter’s Square.

Metrolink services are running to Deansgate-Castlefield, Market Street, Shudehill, Piccadilly and Victoria tram stops, with shuttle bus links through the city.
