Already a seasoned cycle commuter, or tempted to give cycling to work a go after watching Team GB dominate the sport this year?
Salix Homes is encouraging residents to get involved in Cycle to Work Day today, Wednesday, 14 September which aims to encourage people to ditch the car or public transport for a two-wheeled commute.
Cycling to work won’t be practical for everybody but if it is a viable option then tomorrow could be the day to give it a go.
One man who gets on his bike to work is Simon Morris, executive director of resources at Salix Homes.
Simon regularly cycles the 34-mile round trip from his home to the housing provider’s headquarters at Diamond House, Salford, on a route that is mainly off-road.
He also takes advantage of the organisation’s Cycle to Work Scheme which enables colleagues to lease a bicycle, equipment and safety equipment for a period of 12 months.
At the end of the scheme they have the option to purchase the bicycle at a discounted rate.
Simon said: “If I didn’t cycle to and from work I would be stuck in traffic on a regular basis. Driving would cost me more and vitally, it’s not helping me to stay fit.
“Our Cycle to Work scheme helps me, and other colleagues, improve our health and wellbeing, something our organisation is committed to doing.
“Regular exercise can help you lose weight, boost your mood and improve your health. What better way to do that than by getting on a bike?”
