Jordan McGowan, 12, is hoping that a fundraising event this weekend will get him to Florida, USA, after potentially lifesaving treatment for leukaemia finally ends.
Organiser and family member Dave Evans said that it has always been Jordan’s dream to visit Florida and hopefully this weekend’s event will make his wish come true.
They’re hoping to pull in £500 through this JustGiving page to give the 12-year-old the vital push he needs to get to America.
The team are almost 70% of the way there with £345 pledged already.
Jordan has 18 months left of chemotherapy at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where he has endured countless sessions designed to battle his cancer.
The young Salford lad is in his first year at Buile Hill High School, having started this September as an optimistic Year 7.
City-mad Jordan also loves to play football as part of the De La Salle Football Club team in Swinton.
Dave told SalfordOnline.com that Jordan is just like any other young lad and has great enthusiasm for his future.
He said: “Jordan has had his up and downs with his treatment, but he is just like any other normal kid…and he never has a smile off his face.”
Jordan’s story of hope has deeply resonated with his extended family and other members of the community, who have all reached out to show their love and support.
Jordan’s fundraising day will take place Sunday 18 September from 12pm at Moorlands Club on Liverpool Street in Salford.
There’ll be a raffle, auction, DJ and a buffet for all those who attend.
And great news for the kids, their free entry will give them the chance to have their faces painted.
Thankful Jordan will be attending the fundraiser event too, alongside a few of his footballing mates.
Family friend Alena Wilkinson posted on Facebook: “Let’s all support this worthy cause for a good mate’s nephew who’s fighting leukaemia and send him on his dream holiday to Florida.
Tickets are available either from Dave Evans – call 07951414122 – or from The Moorlands Social Club direct on 0161 736 2118.
