Teen traders wanted for Eccles market

Teenage traders and performers are being invited to come on down and sell their wares in Eccles.

The town is staging a second Teenage Market after the success of the first one last Christmas.

It’s designed to help young traders test the market and 15 stalls will be available free, on a first come, first served basis.

The event will take place on Saturday July 18 from 10am to 2pm and is being organised by Eccles Shopping Centre and Eccles Town Team which brings together local traders, community volunteers, Salford City Council and partner organisations to boost the town.

Councillor Lisa Stone , chair of the Town Team, said: “Despite freezing temperatures we had 19 traders selling cakes, candles, gifts, up-cycled furniture, plants and gift and seven performers plus an Irish dance troupe last time.

“It was a great atmosphere. People really enjoyed buying from our teenage traders and it was great for the young people themselves so we’re hoping to get an even bigger turnout this summer. There will be spaces in Eccles Shopping Centre and the indoor market.”

The Teenage Market was set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt from Stockport as a way to support local young people and transform town centres and has been picked up nationwide.

Joe Barratt said: “The Teenage Market really is the key to identifying a new generation of market traders by making young people an active part of our town centres.”

Stalls must be booked in advance by July 14. Anyone wanting to take part as trader or performer can sign up at www.theteenagemarket.co.uk
