Police were called to the scene of an unusual incident in Irlam where they found a car abandoned on a dual carriageway.
At around 9pm on Friday 3 July a passing car stopped to help a driver who had stopped at the roadside with a puncture, but left after reporting to police that the man was drunk.
A few minutes later police received the call that the car had been abandoned on the A57 Cadishead Way with two punctured tyres and all its windows open.
Arriving at the scene officers could not locate the absent driver so the car was made safe, but in their investigations they found the man had left a large bottle of whisky on the front passenger side seat.
At around 7.25am on Saturday 4 July the driver handed himself in to police and confessed to drink driving.
