Incredible escape: Man on Spice legal high ‘can’t remember’ 60ft leap from Salford tower block

A 29-year-old man took a legal high and jumped almost 60 feet from a tower block in Salford – but told police he ‘couldn’t remember’ doing it.

He suffered serious injuries in the fall and is now in a critical condition in hospital.

At around 5.30pm on Monday 15 June officers arrived at Arthur Millwood Court on Rodney Street in Salford to find the man lying on a grassed area outside the front of the building.

He was treated at the scene before being rushed to Salford Royal hospital’s Accident and Emergency unit.

A post from GMP Salford East on their Facebook page suggests the man had taken the ‘Spice’ legal high.

“Yesterday evening a male jumped out of a fifth floor window in Islington, Salford after taking a legal high commonly known as ‘Spice’.

“He is now in a critical condition in hospital and when officers arrived at the scene he did not remember jumping out of the window.

“These substances are dangerous, please do not take them.”

Spice is sold online, packaged as ‘herbal incense’ or ‘synthetic marijuana’ When smoked it gives users an intense high with elevated mood, a feeling or relaxation and altered perception.

However the side effects can be extremely severe, including hallucinations, memory loss and kidney failure.

Using Spice, also known as K2, can also trigger underlying psychotic episodes.

Reports from a US-based specialist Spice addiction clinic suggest that a side effect of the drug not shared with marijuana is that, as a synthetic cannabinoid, it can be highly addictive.

Users report insomnia, depression, extreme sweating and dehydration and suicidal thoughts.

Anecdotal evidence shows long-term Spice users crave the high in the same way as users of hard drugs like heroin, crack cocaine and painkillers.
