Both were treated at the scene before being taken to Salford Royal Hospital.

Luckily neither man is thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

Debris was scattered across the road near the Link Project offices and police closed Chadwick Road while they made the area safe.

The road is has only recently been resurfaced and is artificially narrowed with ‘choker’ curb extensions but traffic calming measures have not been particularly effective in cutting speeding on Chadwick and Cromwell Road.

Around 30 streets between Peel Lane and Green Lane have been highlighted as potential roads where the speed limit could be cut to 20mph.

Eccles councillor Peter Wheeler told SalfordOnline.com: “This isn’t the first accident on this road and we are aware of the long-term problem of people speeding.

“The issue of came up in at a local residents’ meeting in June.

“We have been working with local people to come up with a solution and on Friday 10 July at Salford Council it was agree that 20mph limits would go forward for this area.

“We still have to consult with local people on these plans but we will be looking to go ahead as a matter of urgency.”

In November 2013 a 19-year-old man was left fighting for his life after a head-on smash just 200 yards down the road near the junction with Nelson Street.
