Lorry bursts into flames on M602 in Salford


A lorry caught fire on the M602 motorway just before the Langworthy Road South bridge heading towards Manchester.

The tipper truck pulled over onto the hard shoulder engulfed in flames.

At around 2.15pm today, Tuesday 14 July readers spotted thick black smoke billowing across the carriageway and up into the air.

Two fire crews from Salford Central were called to the scene, while police put rolling road blocks in place.

The smoke could be seen for half a mile around.

Major disruption is expected with traffic building up inbound to Manchester at Junction 3 for the Regent Road roundabout.

A crowd of around 30 people gathered to watch the fire from the motorway bridge above.

[Update] As of 2.35pm the fire is understood to be under control.

The driver is not thought to have been injured in the blaze.
