Animal charity needs your help

Fundraisers for Captive Animals’ Protection Society in Salford are urging people to help them raise money, simply by doing their normal shopping through a website that helps them donate as they spend.

The charity is determined to end the exploitation of animals in the entertainment industry and captivity, focusing on circuses, TV and film, zoos, aquariums, and the exotic pet trade. Founded in 1957 by retired school teacher Irene Heaton, the charity has spent over 50 years campaigning to raise awareness of the treatment of wild animals in captivity.

As part of their fundraising, the charity is registered on easyfundraising.org.uk, a free service which aids small causes in their fundraising missions. People who want to donate can simply choose to do their everyday shopping via the website, and after purchasing, the retailer will give cash rewards that can be turned into a donation.

Working on issues that they’re truly passionate about, CAPS educates people on animal issues, teaching compassion and respect, whilst carrying out undercover investigations to expose animal cruelty and campaigning to ban exploitative animal practices. The charity solely relies on donations from supporters to fund investigations with a single undercover investigation costing anything from £1000 to £10,000. CAPS hopes to raise enough money through easyfundraising to fund at least one small investigation.

Nicola O’Brien, Fundraising Director at CAPS, said: “easyfundraising.org has really helped us with our fundraising mission. Supporters can donate just by shopping online and the additional funds will help us provide more support and will really make a difference to the day-to-day work of our charity.”

Caroline Adams, Head of Marketing for easyfundraising, said: “We are so glad to have been able to help CAPS, and we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to donate through our site for this cause. Local charities are extremely important in the community, and without funding, it would be difficult for all this important work to be carried out.”

So far, easyfundraising.org.uk has raised over £9 million for causes throughout the UK.
