An 86-year-old man was pulled to safety after his car overturned in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday.

Police were called to Manchester Road in Clifon, near the Robin Hood pub at 5.35pm on 22 March to reports of a smash between a blue Renault Megane and a grey Nissan.

The man suffered cuts and bruises in the crash after his car flipped onto its roof.

But eyewitnesses managed to pull him clear from the wreckage before emergency crews arrived on scene.

His injuries are not thought to have been life-threatening and he went to Salford Royal Hospital in a stable condition.

There were no other injuries reported. Police said they were treating the incident as an accident.
