Four Salford parks and a cemetery can continue to fly the flag with pride.
Blackleach Country Park, Clifton Country Park, Peel Green Cemetery, Victoria Park and Winton Park have kept their Green Flag status for another year.
All five have now held the award for five years or more – after being judged on key criteria such as being welcoming, clean, healthy, safe and secure and how well they involve the local community.
The national award is given to the top parks, cemeteries, community gardens and other green spaces in the country and the Salford five are among over 1500 to receive or retain the award this year.
Councillor Gena Merrett, assistant mayor for housing and environment, congratulated staff and volunteers on their achievement.
“Parks are judged by very high standards to win this prestigious awards so everyone involved should be very proud of themselves. This is a testament to all their hard work and commitment,” she said.
The Green Flag Awards are judged by an army of more than 700 green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
The Green Flag scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the government.
