Eccles students on a trip of a lifetime to China

Fourteen lucky second year Business Studies students from Salford City College’s Eccles Sixth Form Centre went on the trip of a lifetime to the Chinese capital Beijing earlier this month, as a supplement to their studies of the International Business A2 unit.

Whilst on the trip, the students visited various local businesses, including the Huiyuan juice factory, the Jingling brewery and a jade factory. They also had the chance to put their business skills to the test by haggling with vendors at a traditional Chinese silk market.

Cultural highlights of the trip included a trip to The Great Wall, which gave the students stunning views across the landscape of Eastern China, and a mind-blowing acrobat show at the Beijing Theatre.

Visits to Tiananmen Square, Beijing Old Town and the Liuminying Eco-Village also provided the students with an invaluable insight into both ancient and modern Chinese culture.

Natasha Toubkin, Business Studies Curriculum Leader at Eccles Sixth Form Centre, said: “The trip was a great opportunity for the students to see the real world of business in action, and gave them valuable enrichment to their study of international business. The students learnt a lot about the culture of China and how this links to their business dealings- knowledge that would be very difficult to teach in the classroom.”

“Going to China was an unforgettable experience, and a once in a life time trip,” commented Scarlett Tyrrell, who is 17 and from Worsley. “It was the best week of my life,” added 17-year-old classmate Christopher Royle.
