People in Salford are being invited to discover the benefits of cycling at a roadshow which calls into the area next week.
Bike experts will be on hand at Greengate Square, at the corner of Chapel Street and Victoria Bridge Street, from 8am-11am on Tuesday 25 August, to explain how easy it is to saddle up and get out and about.
There will be free maps and hi-vis gear and the opportunity for visitors to take a ‘selfie’ of themselves on a bicycle to win prizes.
The event is part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM’s) new Life On 2 Wheels campaign, which urges people to jump on their bikes this summer and give cycling a try.
Six people who cycle for a variety of reasons have been chosen as Life on 2 Wheels ambassadors, their faces appearing on posters across Greater Manchester.
Cllr Chris Paul, Cycling Champion on the Transport for Greater Manchester Committee, said: “We hope the campaign will show that cycling is for all types of people, and for all types of reasons.
“With significant investment in cycling in Greater Manchester, there has never been a better time to think about cycling.”
The campaign is part of the Cycle City programme, funded by the Department for Transport, and features a wide range of initiatives and projects to get people out and about on two wheels.
This includes running free adult cycling training sessions; building new cycle hubs offering secure bike parking spaces and developing a major network of cycleways to make travelling around the region by bike easier, safer and more convenient.
More than 1,000 additional secure cycle spaces have been provided at workplaces and cycle hubs, with the first phase of Cycle City routes being delivered over the next few months.
