Have you got an interest in helping to co-ordinate events in Victoria Park, Swinton?
The voluntary committee which looks after the future of this historic Salford park and helps arrange concerts at its famous bandstand is looking for new members.
Councillor Howard Balkind, who represents Swinton South, said: “Victoria Park has one of the last surviving regularly used examples of a Victorian bandstand, which was built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Victoria.
“We’re looking for new blood to push forward the wonderful events in the park and anyone is welcome to joing the Friends of Victoria Park.”
The park opened in 1897 after the land was bought up by the Borough of Swinton and Pendlebury.
It is considered one of the city’s most historic features.
Flowers, planting and good walking spaces help to make this small park one of the best used in Salford.
More regular brass band concerts, and new ideas for using the bandstand will help to widen the park’s popularity, says Cllr Balkind.
“We’re looking to secure the park’s immediate future and we’re looking for the local community to get involved to really make the most of this wonderful asset,” he said.
Anyone who has an interest in joining the Friends of Victoria Park group is welcomed to attend the next meeting on Tuesday 22 September at 7.30pm, meeting at the main park entrance on the A6 Manchester Road.
