Moped rider hurt in smash outside Salford fire station

A moped rider has been taken to hospital with back injuries after coming off his bike in Salford.

At 3.25pm today, Tuesday 1 September, a member of the public spotted the accident on Liverpool Street in Salford and rushed into the nearby fire station.

Fire crews, who were training in the station yard at the time, raced across the road to help give emergency first aid to the man.

They stabilised him while police and ambulance crews made their way to the the scene.

Another car is thought to have been involved in the accident but no one has been arrested.

“We were outside in the yard training at the time when we were informed of what we term a ‘running call’,” said Salford fire station Crew Manager Mark Humphries.

“We were mobilised to Liverpool Street where we found the male laying on his side in the road.

He was complaining of pain to his lower back, consistent with coming off a motorcycle.

“Fire service personnel administered oxygen therapy at the scene and fitted the man with a collar to protect against neck or spinal injuries, before putting him on a spinal board.”

He was conscious and breathing at the scene, and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment.
